If you’re planning a trip to Yellowstone National Park this summer, now’s the perfect time to get ahead of the crowds and experience the park as it begins to bloom. As the snow melts and wildlife stirs, Yellowstone is opening its gates and welcoming travelers back for another unforgettable season.
Whether you're dreaming of geysers, grizzlies, or guided Yellowstone tours, this spring-to-summer transition is one of the most magical times to visit. Here you can find out what's open in Yellowstone so far for 2025.
What's Open in Yellowstone for 2025
As of April 18, 2025, both the North Entrance in Gardiner, Montana, and the West Entrance in West Yellowstone are officially open for the season. These key entry points offer access to popular destinations like Old Faithful, Mammoth Hot Springs, Lamar Valley, Norris Geyser Basin, and the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone.
Additional park roads—including those leading to Yellowstone Lake and Fishing Bridge—are expected to open throughout May, depending on weather. Be sure to check the Yellowstone road conditions before you travel.
Campgrounds and Lodges Getting Ready for Summer
If you're staying overnight in Yellowstone National Park, some campgrounds and lodging are set to open soon:
Bridge Bay Campground reopens May 16
Bridge Bay Marina opens June 13
Many other campgrounds, lodges, and in-park services will follow suit as temperatures rise. You can find all scheduled opening dates on the park’s Operating Dates page.
Spring Wildlife Viewing in Yellowstone

Spring is prime time for wildlife watching in Yellowstone National Park. Grizzly bears are emerging from hibernation, bison are calving, and wolves can often be spotted prowling the valleys. Lamar Valley and Hayden Valley are top spots for early morning sightings.
Be prepared for chilly weather and wet trails—boardwalks around hot springs and geysers may still have ice and snow. Waterproof footwear and warm layers are a must.
Yellowstone Visitor Services and Updates
Visitor centers, restaurants, and shops in Yellowstone and surrounding towns like West Yellowstone, Gardiner, and Bozeman are gradually reopening. Whether you're grabbing a cup of coffee, booking a guided hike, or picking up gear, more services become available every week.
Celebrate National Park Week in Yellowstone
National Park Week kicked off on April 19, 2025, with a free entrance day. If you missed it, don’t worry—ranger-led programs and special activities will continue through the spring and summer season. These are a great way to connect with Yellowstone’s rich history, geology, and wildlife.
