West Yellowstone Crash Reminds Us Why Safety Matters

At Old Faithful and Friends Shuttle and Tours, our hearts are with all those affected by the tragic accident that occurred on May 1st near West Yellowstone. This tragedy hits especially close to home for us. As a tour company that travels these roads with guests from around the world, we know how meaningful these journeys are—and how important it is that they remain safe. The loss of life on a route so familiar to us is not only heartbreaking—it’s personal.

We extend our deepest sympathies to the families and friends of those who lost their lives, as well as to the survivors and the emergency crews who responded with courage and compassion.

Events like this are a powerful reminder of how important it is to prioritize safety on the road. Whether you're a local resident, a visitor, or part of a tour group, we encourage everyone to drive with care and remain mindful behind the wheel.

Driving in Yellowstone with Care: Reflections Crash

  • Stay alert and avoid distractions. Keep your eyes on the road, hands on the wheel, and avoid using your phone while driving.

  • Drive rested. Fatigue impairs reaction time—make sure you're well-rested before a long drive.

  • Observe speed limits, especially in wildlife zones. Many roads around Yellowstone are winding and home to roaming animals.

  • Keep a safe following distance. Tourists unfamiliar with the area may stop suddenly to take photos or view wildlife.

  • Use headlights in low visibility. Mountain weather changes quickly—always be ready for rain, snow, or fog.

  • Never drive impaired. Whether from alcohol, medications, or exhaustion—safe driving requires full attention.

  • Check weather and road conditions before setting out. Road closures and weather advisories are common in this region.

Let’s all do our part to stay safe on the road and look out for one another.

With heartfelt sympathy,

The Old Faithful and Friends Shuttle and Tours Team
